The Pan American Symphony Orchestra (PASO) opens its 20th season at the Montgomery College Performing Arts Center in Takoma Park/Silver Spring on Saturday, October 16 at 8 PM. Known for its colorful repertoire of Latin American and Spanish music, PASO has been entertaining Washington, DC audiences for two decades, premiering new works, showcasing Latin American talent, and highlighting the diversity that makes up Hispanic culture. Sergio Alessandro Buslje, the artistic director and conductor of PASO and a native of Argentina, is a longtime resident of Silver Spring. “I have looked forward to this for a long time,” says Buslje. “We all know that Silver Spring offers a wealth of cultural diversity with a population that strongly supports the arts." Joining PASO for this special anniversary concert is the Urban Tango Trio, three dynamic young musicians who have dazzled audiences in Tokyo and New York with their cutting edge performances. The Pan American Symphony Orchestra performs the U.S. premiere of La CarmenTango on Saturday, March 6th at the George Washington University Lisner’s Auditorium.
This cutting-edge show with an original score by Argentine composer and arranger, Raul Garello, takes the world’s most loved story of passion, obsession, and revenge and sets it in turn of the century Buenos Aires.
Alicia Orlando, a Buenos Aires-based choreographer has magically woven tango dance and ballet into an expertly tight and riveting performance featuring her husband, Claudio Barneix, and Lucy Bowen McCauley, the founder and director of the Arlington-based Bowen McCauley Dance Company.
Both Orlando and Barneix can lay claim to tango authenticity in their dance interpretations, having danced with the best tango orchestras in Argentina for over 25 years. The Bowen McCauley Company joins them filling the stage with its signature style to portray this new story of Carmen set among the docks of Buenos Aires.

The Dance and The Music become one, as The NATIONAL CHAMBER ENSEMBLE opens its exciting third season with “A Fabulous NIGHT of TANGO”.
Acclaimed for his, "Gorgeous tone... Compelling musical personality...Passionate intensity," (The Washington Post), violinist and NCE Artistic Director Leonid Sushansky’s goal is a less ‘formal’ presentation of fine music. “Our goal is to build a sense of closeness between performers and audience that enhances the feeling of community and a deeper musical experience and makes the first time concertgoer just as comfortable as the connoisseur.”
