Waltz in The Washington, DC Area
There are many opportunities to learn and dance waltz of all styles in the Washingtonn DC area. The various styles include Viennese, ballroom, and folk (rotary) waltzes. The folk waltz includes Cajun, Zydeco, and country and western styles. Events range from formal Balls to the casual dress Sunday afternoon dances in the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park.
The wonderful Spanish Ballroom was built in 1933 in the Spanish mission-style exterior and an art deco interior; with a lovely 7,500 sq. ft. dance floor. For more information about Glen Echo Park and its dance programs see http://www.glenechopark.org/dancing.htm and http://www.nps.gov/glec/ .
Sunday Afternoon Waltz at Glen Echo Park’s Spanish Ballroom
http://www.WaltzTimeDances.org
The Waltz Time volunteer committee members host Sunday afternoon waltzes twice a month, usually on the first and third Sundays. A beginner waltz lesson is taught from 3 - 3:30 pm and the dance follows from 3:30 - 6 pm, with music provided by wonderfully talented musicians.
The 1/2-hour pre-dance lesson, included in the cost of admission, teaches the basics of the folk-turning waltz. This is a popular style of waltz at the ballroom, but all styles are welcome.
The popular annual fundraiser for Glen Echo Park; "An Evening with Strauss" Viennese Waltz Ball is also hosted by Waltz Time and held in the Spanish Ballroom every spring. Check www.WaltzTimeDances.org for more information or call Glen Echo Park at 301.634.2222.
